Aylesbury Partners who won £1K in a national TV pub quiz have donated their prize to a charity important to a friend of the pub.
Michelle and Steve Orr at the Chandos pub in Oakley, Aylesbury, have donated their £1,000 prize to the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust after being crowned winners in the Pub Heroes national TV pub quiz.
Pub Heroes Live is a traditional pub quiz where customers of each pub play against the customers in other pubs within the league to win £1000 for a charity of their choice. The pubs are connected via Skype giving the whole pub the opportunity to be seen live on Sky TV.
Despite the challenging economic times that some pubs are facing, Partners Michelle and Steve at the pub, owned by Punch Taverns, choose to donate their winnings to the trust after their long standing employee and friend Rob Price was diagnosed with a brain tumour nearly three years ago.
Michelle said: “We are so proud to have won! Our win was not only exciting but a very emotional achievement as our dear friend Rob has a brain tumour. So we wanted to support the trust with their research into this devastating disease and give hope to brain tumour patients in the future.”
“We’re overwhelmed by the support from our friends and customers and we would like to thank them all for this great achievement.”
Paul Ashpole, Managing Director and Founder of Pub Heroes Live, commented: “We love the idea that pubs can give something back to the local community with the backing of the people playing.”
“In these economically challenging times, pubs need to provide a great experience to draw customers from their homes. So we developed Pub Heroes, the only interactive TV show made specifically for pubs, which has proven to be a real crowd pleaser and has increased pub revenues. The Chandos Arms at Oakley managed to triple takings on Tuesdays’ quiz night - a truly astonishing result! This success has resulted in a strong following within the pubs who love the programme.”
Maureen Weatherstone, the Partner at The Black Horse Hotel in Thame, who recommend Chandos joined the show, says “A real benefit of Pub Heroes is that anyone who’s in the pub at the time can participate and make new friends with the locals”.
