“Since we took on the pub it’s all been about making it work so we keep trying out new ideas to drive trade. We involve the local community in everything we do and we want to continue to work with Punch to make our great pub work!” Peter Gough, George & Dragon, Thringstone

Partner, Peter Gough has run the George and Dragon, Thringstone since 2007 along with his wife Ann and their business partners Stephen and Margaret Fern and have always been determined that it would be the people’s pub!

Peter recently invited our Regional Director, David Wigham along to show him the impeccable standards he maintains there. From the inside of his perfectly shiny oven, the cakes, biscuits and potatoes for sale, the Friday morning business breakfast club, a book swapping club, to the huge programme of events and live music put on at the pub, Peter really is pulling out all their stops to make his business a success in the current climate.

On top of that, Peter and the team have done a huge amount for charity including organising Thringstone Live for Charity (TLC), a live music event which raises funds for Cancer Research and Rainbows Hospice. They have also hosted a ladies fashion show on a Monday evening raising hundreds of pounds for the Rainbows Hospice, a ‘Ciderfest’ for the local air ambulance fund and will be holding a carol concert on 16th December with a local brass band who will perform under the outdoor Christmas tree complete with mulled wine and mince pies!

Peter comments: “Since we took on the pub it’s all been about making it work so we keep trying out new ideas to drive trade.  We involve the local community in everything we do and we want to continue to work with Punch to make our great pub work!”

Punch’s regional director, David Wigham comments: “Peter and the team at the George and Dragon work tirelessly, not only to run a fantastic pub with real ales, home cooked food and the warmest of welcomes, but their efforts in bringing the community together and supporting so many local charities truly is an inspiration.”
