Pollok Inn “We had to act swiftly as the entrance for the lorry was blocked. Also, the delivery was crucial as it was after the Christmas holiday period and we had no beer left.” Jim Drennan, Pollok Inn, Glasgow

Licensee Margaret Drennan’s Husband Jim, of the Pollok Inn in Glasgow, braved the gale force winds to ensure they got their beer delivery after a tree blew down and blocked the car park.

Quick thinking Jim, along with friends George and Malcolm, spent three hours demolishing a broken tree to ensure the dray team could get the delivery in to the Punch Taverns owned pub.

Jim said: “We had to act swiftly as the entrance for the lorry was blocked. Also, the delivery was crucial as it was after the Christmas holiday period and we had no beer left.”

George and Malcolm used a combination of chain saw, axe and the wrench from a recovery truck to move the debris and made the site safe.

Punch business relationship manager Campbell Dorward said: “These guys put themselves and their equipment on the line in rough conditions. It just shows what some people are prepared to do to make sure they receive their delivery.”
