“We wanted to re-launch the pub and we thought it would be a great idea to re-enact the photograph with as many locals as possible.” Tony Woodman, Greyhound, Hickling, Norwich

Villagers have recreated a photograph, taken nearly 90 years ago, of locals outside the Greyhound in Hickling, Norwich to celebrate the makeover of their local pub.

A street party took place in honour of the newly decorated venue, where eleven local men donned costumes from the 20s era and posed outside the Greyhound.

Partner of The Greyhound, Tony Woodman, said: “The picture that we re-created has been permanently loaned to us by a local and we have it displayed on the wall in the pub.”

“We were very lucky to find that all the names were on the back of the original photo, so we re-created it with the names on the back for future generations to find, as the picture is going to be put in a time capsule, currently being put together by our Parish”

Tony Woodman and his partner Debi Key, who have been at the pub for 16 years, decided it was time for an external makeover and worked with Punch to come up with the right scheme.

Debi Key said: “Punch had a generous budget, so we decided to use the money to get the best effect we could.”

“We wanted to re-launch the pub and we thought it would be a great idea to re-enact the photograph with as many locals as possible.”

Tony Woodman thanked locals for their support and added: “I think the community has really come together and orchestrated the whole event for us.”

There was a fun filled afternoon planned for the villagers with games, music, village stocks and sponsored leg waxing with funds raised for Help for Heroes.
