“One of my regulars, Patricia Grant, first suggested painting the pub as a joke but I thought, ‘why not’. Anita Heath, The Rodney, Saltash, Cornwall

A Punch Taverns licensee in Saltash, Cornwall has painted the outside of her pub bright pink to raise money for a breast cancer charity.

With the help of her regulars, Anita Heath of The Rodney donned a paint brush and painted her pub pink, to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Anita explains: “One of my regulars, Patricia Grant, first suggested painting the pub as a joke but I thought, ‘why not’. Patricia lost her mother-in-law to breast cancer a few years ago, my mother has also suffered from the disease, and a number of other pub customers have also been affected by the disease.”

It is a real community effort as the paint was donated by a local paint shop and a local decorator gave up a day of his time to help the ladies paint the pub.

The Rodney will also be running a number of pink related activities including a raffle, pink cakes for sale and a number of events including live music, poker nights, quiz nights, a barbecue and disco throughout the month to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care.

Operations manager for Punch,  Clive Greene comments:  “We commend Anita and her team at the Rodney.  This is a great example of the community pulling together for a great cause.  We wish them all the very best with these fundraising activities.”
