Partners, Kate and David Deakin of The Shoulder of Mutton in Kirby Overblow have been crowned Best Community Pub in the country at the MA’s Great British Pub Awards 2010!
The awards took place in London last night, where a number of our GMs and Partners who had reached the final stages, competed against pubs from across the country.
Kate and David Deacon have won the Best Community award for the last four years running. Kate said: “Winning this award is a fantastic endorsement of all the work we’ve put into the pub over the years. We’re thrilled to bits and grateful for the support of our staff and customers who have helped us achieve this.”
Kate and husband Dave have put pub at the heart of their village, supporting the church, primary school and drama group, as well as a list of local charities. One of the biggest recent developments was the opening of a shop within the pub, selling household essentials as well as a range of speciality food dishes prepared by David.
Paul Charity, editor of the Morning Advertiser added: “Winning one of our fiercely-competed Awards is a tremendous achievement. Kate and David are to be congratulated for building a successful business, despite the difficulties currently facing the pub industry.”
