A Chester bar has been recognised as a Regional Champion and for delivering the best experience to customers in the North West.
Punch Taverns, the largest pub company in the UK, has rewarded the Barlounge, Chester with a 2008 Shine Award – which commends those truly exceptional pubs from its 8,400 strong estate.
Licensee Neil McDonnell and his team won the ‘Best Customer Experience’ category and was also named overall Regional Champion. Neil received his award at a prestigious ceremony at Rookery Hall, Cheshire on 3rd April.
Barlounge, Chester fought off tough competition from 12 other regional finalists who had been short listed from over a 1000 pubs and bars, nominated from all over the UK.
The judges commented on the ‘superb and consistent levels of service’ in the restaurant and noted that the bar was ‘very comfortable’. They also praised the excellent smoking solution outside on their heated terrace.
Punch’s regional operations director Andy Hodgson commented: "What a fantastic event and a great opportunity to recognise these truly outstanding pubs and bars. We received over 100 nominations in this region so to be crowned category winners is an exceptional achievement – well done!”
And licensee Neil McDonnell is delighted with the accolade. He comments: “We were really shocked but thrilled to receive this award – particularly as it recognises the service we provide to our guests. We have been going for nine years and looking after our guests is always our number one priority. Each year we are seeing the same guests return to us so this award is for the whole team, for their perseverance and hard work.”
As well as his trophy, Neil also received a £500 gift experience voucher and will join the other Regional Champions at a prestigious Champions Dinner event taking place on 21st May at Hampton Court Palace in London.
