What we do: We acquire
Punch Taverns aims to maintain its leading position in the UK pub market by expanding its quality portfolio through selective acquisition.
We spent over £64 million on acquisitions during the financial year 2006/07, adding a further 85 pubs to our estate.
Key acquisitions include:
- In January 2006, we acquired 1,842 managed pubs with a £2,679 million acquisition of Spirit Group
- In September 2006, we acquiried 82 pubs from Mill House Inns for £164 million.
- In August 2005, we acquired Avebury Holdings Limited for £219 million, an estate of over 409 pubs.
- In September 2004, we acquired InnSpired group, an estate of 1,064 pubs with an acquisition value of approximately £335 million. Then, following a strategic review of the InnSpired estate we then disposed of 545 pubs which we identified as non-core to our long term strategy.
- In November 2003, we bought Pubmaster for £1.2 billion, acquiring 3,115 leased and tenanted pubs.
With a dedicated acquisitions team, Punch is always actively looking to build on its existing estate by purchasing pubs with development potential.
While some landlords sell to retire and realise their investment, other single and multiple operators have benefited from the company's sale and leaseback scheme. This enables them to receive a cash injection for business or personal investment, whilst retaining a commercial interest in the long-term running of the pub.
We have a dedicated site for anyone interested in selling their freehold pub to us at www.punchtaverns.com - click on the 'Selling Your Pub' link.
