CSR/Responsible retailing 



We believe that the vast majority of pubs throughout the UK already provide a well regulated environment for the responsible retailing of alcohol. We remain committed to building on this and have a dedicated team in place to ensure that our pubs operate to the highest standards. We do all we can to ensure that our pubs are not operating irresponsible drinks promotions, or serving underage drinkers or those under the influence of alcohol.

As Portman Group signatories and supporters of Drinkaware we do not condone irresponsible drinks promotions. We have actively supported the 'Why let good times go bad' campaign to tackle binge drinking amongst 18 to 25 year olds across our estate.
 
Responsible retailing forms a key part of our Partner training and last year 783 Partners completed our responsible retailing training. To drive best practice, we produced a comprehensive Risk Management pack for all of our Partners which gives clear guidance on current legislation and regulations to drive best practice.
 
The pack is backed up by the support of our Risk and Compliance Teams who provide advice and guidance to Partners and our Operations teams on a range of issues. In the last year, the teams have handled over thousands of calls ranging from legal queries, concerns about licensing, audits to fire safety issues.

Health and wellbeing

We support our Partners in driving standards within their pubs through our Partner training programme, which includes food hygiene and Health and Safety qualifications as well as cellar visits and retail standard assessments.

Within the first few days of taking on their pubs, Partners receive a comprehensive ‘Safe, Legal and Compliant’ pack which has been produced to ensure they are clear on the various legal requirements affecting their business, ranging from general advice and guidance to top tips and templates such as Fire Assessments or Health and Safety Policies that can be tailored for their businesses.
