£1.2m investment gets resolution afloat
Press Release

Landmark Whitby pub and club the Resolution reopens this weekend following a major £1.2 million refurbishment.

The investment in the Grade II listed building by owner Punch Pub Company has created 24 jobs.

The pub, on Skinner Street, now boasts new bar areas, a 150 capacity function room and 21 en suite letting rooms each with Internet access points to ensure they appeal to business travellers as well as tourists.

Its lower ground floor members club will be completed and launched in the New Year.

Maureen Taylor, who is running the Resolution with her husband Peter, said: “A tremendous amount of hard work has gone into restoring the pub and we are looking forward to showing off the results to the people of Whitby.

“Christmas is now top priority and we have already started taking bookings for Christmas Day lunch.

“Our first weekend will be devoted to staff training but customers are more than welcome to drop in and we will show them around the new facilities.

“The Resolution is then fully open for business from Monday 16 December,” she added.

The Resolution is one of Punch Pub Company’s flagship developments and represents its largest ever investment in a single outlet.

It takes its name from the Whitby-built Resolution, Captain James Cook’s second expeditionary vessel.

Business development manager Paul Bellinger said: “We are delighted with the results of the refurbishment, which underlines our ongoing commitment to investing funds back into the Punch estate.

“And with two such experienced retailers as Maureen and Peter on board, we are confident the Resolution will be a great success.”
