A popular Brighton pub has been officially recognised as offering the best food in Britain by taking top honours in the industry’s leading food awards.
The George on Trafalgar Street, which is owned by Punch Pub Company, has been named the Vegetarian Food Pub of the Year by the Publican Magazine in its 2002 Pub Food Awards.
Beating off competition from hundreds of other pubs around the country, lessee Graham Jeffries impressed the panel of judges with his extensive Vegetarian Society approved menu of one per cent meat and GM-free dishes.
Francis Patton, commercial director for Punch Pub Company, said: “The Publican Pub Food Awards are widely recognised as one of the most prestigious industry accolades and this win for the George is an achievement to be very proud of.”
The George’s commitment to vegetarianism does not stop at the dishes on the menu. The ingredients used by the pub’s chefs are mainly organic and sourced locally to support nearby suppliers and farmers.
Of the 12 wines on the menu, six are currently organic and vegan. The pub also sells organic beer and its hot drinks are 5p cheaper with soya milk.
Punch Pub Company owns 4,300 tenanted and leased pubs across the UK. For more information, log onto www.punchpubs.co.uk.
