A hybrid Kingsbury bar has been officially recognised as offering the best food in Britain by taking top honours in the industry’s leading food awards.
The Great Eastern on Kingsbury Road, which is owned by Punch Pub Company, has been named the Ethnic Food Pub of the Year by the Publican Magazine in its 2002 Pub Food Awards.
Beating off competition from hundreds of other pubs around the country, lessees Raju and Niraksha Mashra impressed the panel of judges with the quality of traditional Indian dishes on offer at the North London pub and restaurant.
Francis Patton, commercial director for Punch Pub Company, said: “The Publican Pub Food Awards are widely recognised as one of the most prestigious industry accolades and this win for the Great Eastern is an achievement to be very proud of.”
The Great Eastern combines a traditional pub with a high-quality Indian restaurant. It specialises in cuisine from the Mughlai region of India with influences from other parts of Asia such as China and Gujarat.
Niraksha and Raju became lessees of the Great Eastern last year and carried out an extensive investment in partnership with Punch Pub Company to create a new restaurant known as Khana Khazana – the Urdu phrase for ‘food treasure.’
Punch Pub Company owns 4,300 tenanted and leased pubs across the UK. For more information, log onto www.punchpubs.co.uk.
