Punch Pub Company’s Mark Chapman will be putting his best foot forward next month and heading Stateside to take part in the New York City Marathon. Mark, a training and recruitment manager for the leased and tenanted pubco, has been training hard since March to be in peak condition for the gruelling 26.2 mile course – his first attempt at a full marathon. He has also been busy raising sponsorship money for his designated charity Marie Curie Cancer Care. Mark, aged 30, from Poulton le Fylde, Lancashire, said: “I am really excited, as well as a little nervous! “I was supposed to be running with my best friend until he broke his foot the other week so now I will have to go solo – but he has promised to come along and cheer me on. “The support from friends and colleagues has been great. Punch Pub Company offered me sponsorship money and one of our suppliers, Carlsberg-Tetley, donated a signed England rugby union shirt which I will raffle off.” Mark’s big day is on Sunday 3 November, where he and up to 30,000 fellow competitors will take to the streets of New York and its five boroughs. “I have not really got a target time in mind, I just want to finish the course and try to enjoy the experience. And if all goes well I may consider having a go at next year’s London marathon,” he added.
