Training helps maximise business opportunities
Press Release
Punch Pub Company has implemented an internal training programme for all 125 members of its operations team.

The scheme focuses on developing core business skills under three main headings: selling and influencing; finance; and growth planning.

Punch believes the training, which is targeted at all regional operations directors, investment managers, business development managers, estate managers and estate development managers, will further strengthen service levels to its 4,300 pub lessees and tenants.

Operations director Andrew Thompson said: "Punch Pub Company was formed from three different organisations, each with their own characteristics and business practices.

"The estate has also grown substantially since then and we therefore felt it was important for everyone to adopt a uniform business approach and establish a common business language."

Punch teamed up with training consultancy Enviva, which spent a month shadowing operations personnel to gain a thorough understanding of the pub business and identify specific training requirements.

Andrew said: "It was a lengthy process but an extremely valuable one which enabled us to develop a bespoke three stage training programme for the team.

"Each stage consists of a two day training workshop conducted by Enviva. The selling and influencing and financial sections have recently been completed, while growth planning takes place at the end of March.

"To date, the feedback from delegates has been outstanding and the knowledge and skills acquired will definitely influence the way we manage and develop our partnerships with Punch licensees nationwide."
