A £4,000 charity donation from Punch Pub Company has made wishes come true for two Midlands families. Punch raised the money by opting not to send cards to licensees last Christmas and presented it to Make-a-Wish Foundation UK, the charity that grants wishes to children with life threatening illnesses. Ten year old Joshua Duggan, from Great Barr in Birmingham, who has a brain tumour, wished for a trip of a lifetime to Disneyland, Florida. And when Punch Pub Company discovered Joshua had broken his camera on a recent outing to Legoland, they bought him a surprise replacement ready for his Disney experience. Jennie Mould, regional development executive for Make-a-Wish Foundation UK, said: “With the average wish costing the charity £2,000, we rely on companies like Punch to help us grant them. It is generosity such as theirs that keeps the wishes flowing through. “Joshua and his family are thrilled to be heading off to Florida and were also over the moon about the surprise camera.” The remainder of Punch Pub Company’s donation helped another Midlands child fulfil his dream of visiting the Kennedy Space Centre, also in Florida. Francis Patton, Punch Pub Company’s commercial director, said: “Make-a-Wish was a popular choice of charity among our 300 staff to receive the money and it is great to know that local children and their families are going to benefit by having fantastic holidays with lots of memories.” Make-a-Wish Foundation is the largest wish granting organisation in the world. The UK Foundation, established in 1986, is currently granting wishes at the rate of one per day.
