Date Punch Taverns St Georges Day Brochure
13 March 2007
Title
Cry god for England Harry and St George
Press Release

Punch Taverns is getting ready to slay the dragon this 23 April with a host of St George’s Day promotions available to retailers in its leased and managed pub estates.

Leased pubs will receive a marketing support brochure called Celebrate St George’s Day.

Punch’s category manager Stephen Martin said: “The popularity of celebrating St George’s Day grows each year and the ideas and promotional kits available in the brochure are designed to stimulate interest in pubs. Where better to celebrate England’s patron saint than in your local?”

Brochure content includes several deals with brewers of traditional English ale  such as Shepherd Neame’s Spitfire, and Greene King’s Abbot Ale. Many feature free point of sale material giveaways in exchange for bulk purchases and are available on a first come, first served basis.

Retailers can also buy a themed pub decoration kit for a very competitive £37.90 plus VAT. A design and print service is also available, where a retailer can design their own personalised posters and flyers – with 10 A3 posters costing just £10 plus VAT, and 250 flyers costing just £25 plus VAT.

“There are a number of things retailers can do to make the most of St George’s Day”, said Stephen. “Why not decorate the interior of your pub with bunting and posters? Or maybe hold a St George’s Day quiz – or even provide a drinks offer or free meal to customers who can prove their name is George!”

The Spirit Group

Spirit is the managed house division of Punch Taverns and includes around 1,400 pubs.

Senior marketing manager Kevin Hall said: “St George’s Day is a key calendar event for the company and pubs are being encouraged to reference ‘all things English’ in the build up to the weekend, such as real ale and traditional English food offerings like fish and chips, sausage and mash and roast beef.

“We are encouraging our managers to capture the spirit of St George in their pubs and make them fun, entertaining places to be.”

John Smiths and Tetley bitters are playing a key part in the Spirit St George’s celebrations.

In addition in over 400 city and locals pubs Spirit is also teaming up with brewers  Greene King and Wells & Young’s to promote sales of their IPA and Bombardier cask ales. “Customers will be given cards which they can have stamped each
time they buy a pint of IPA or Bombardier, and when they have the required number of stamps the card can be redeemed for a boxed Bombardier glass or boxed IPA pint and half glass set”, said Kevin.
