Jan Mimiec is exploring the other side of the bar. In his new role as Manager at London Town Pub Company, the former Punch Tavern’s Operations Manager is now helping to breathe new life into some of Punch’s leased pubs in Scotland.
Jan explains: “My training and time with Punch has been invaluable. I learned a great deal about the Scottish market place working with pubs, hotels, night clubs and restaurants and fully understand what Punch is looking for and how they work with and support their licensees.”
“Knowing what it takes to run a good pub business means I am able to work effectively with Punch to get pubs open and trading again in the quickest possible time.”
Jan and London Town Pubs have worked with Punch to re-open nine pubs in Scotland; seven with management agreements in place and two with lease agreements.
Jan continues: “It’s about bringing that business back up to standard and ensuring it is an attractive proposition to a budding entrepreneur. The aim is always to re-open a closed pub as quickly as possible and minimise the effect on the local community.”
“We recently re-opened The Lincoln Inn in Glasgow. The pub needed some essential works undertaking and some smartening up. We have placed a manager in the pub who went on Punch’s Profit Through Beer course to bring them up to speed. We managed to turn this all around and re-open the business within six weeks.”
“I can genuinely say that it is a pleasure to continue working with Punch. We work closely with the business relationship managers, and as I already know them well and know how hard they all work, it makes for a very effective working relationship.”
Punch’s operations director, Kevin Georgel adds: “It is a pleasure to see a fruitful partnership continuing. Jan worked at Punch for almost 8 years and knows how our business works. This ultimately means that we are both able to provide a more efficient and productive service and get our pubs open and trading again.”
