There’s no catch, Punch Pub Company has put vegetarian fish and chips on the menu in its London pubs to give non fish eaters a chance to enjoy this classic British favourite.
Fish and chips is the most popular dish on the menu and over the summer a massive 41,637 portions were sold, that’s nearly one and a half portions every minute! Not wanting non fish eaters to miss out, the pub company’s talented development chefs have launched a vegetarian option using haloumi cheese.

Operations Director, Dan Robinson, said: “It might sound a strange combination at first, but those who try it love it! Every time we have cooked off portions at menu tastings they have disappeared in seconds, which is unheard of for a vegetarian dish!
“Fish and chips is by far the most popular dish in London pubs and it’s only right that our vegetarian guests can now get in on the act and in our experience vegetarian diners prefer a meat substitute when they dine out.”
Punch’s development chefs have been working on the dish for two months and developed five prototypes before perfecting the perfect fish free supper! The haloumi is marinated in olive oil, lemon juice and parsley before being floured and battered.
Veggie Fish and chips will be available in over 100 Punch Pub Company pubs throughout London from Tuesday 17 November.
These include: The Salisbury, Covent Garden; The Sussex, Covent Garden; Ye Olde Cock Tavern, Fleet Street; Marlborough Head, Mayfair.
