Punch Taverns, the UK’s largest pub operator, has appointed a key new figure in its campaign to champion and support pubs in Cheshire.
Martin Carter from Wistaston Nr Nantwich joined Punch in June in the new role of business relationship manager (BRM) supporting pubs in Crewe, Sandbach, Nantwich and Congleton.
Martin will report to operations manager Geoff Temperton and will work closely with 54 licensees across Cheshire to help them build successful, sustainable businesses.
Martin brings 31 years in the hospitality industry having spent 10 years as a chef, firstly in the merchant navy and then in restaurants. He then moved in to a number of general manager roles in managed houses including for Orchid Group and Spirit Group.
Commenting on his appointment, he said: “It’s a great opportunity to support pubs in the leased business. I feel I have a real chance to add value by pulling on my experiences. I am a different individual for each of the 54 licensees I support helping them look specifically at what will help their business.”
He adds: “It’s a great industry to be in for those entrepreneurs who are willing to do their homework and work hard. Running a pub isn’t the sort of thing you can do part time, licensees need the passion and drive to really take their businesses forward.”
Martin lives in Wistaston with wife Maddie and daughter Eleanor. As well as enjoying pubs, he is also a keen scuba diver having just achieved the PADI dive master level.
