Work has started on Punch Taverns’ ground-breaking and eco-friendly new headquarters in Burton on Trent, the regional home of the pub industry.
Chief Executive Giles Thorley took to a JCB last week to dig the first foundations for the innovative new building. The offices, due to be completed by summer 2009, have been specifically designed with the company’s carbon footprint in mind, with the aim of minimising energy consumption. Contractors Ashford Construction of Birmingham have now begun work on the building which will comprise 7,377 square meters of office space in three separate storey wings to house the company’s enlarged team, including employees from both Punch’s managed and leased businesses. Local councillors have described the new development as ‘an impressive gateway to the town’. Punch’s group property development director Neil Griffiths comments: “It will be a great opportunity to bring both of our teams together and gives us a positive platform for future development." "And as part of our commitment to the environment, we are also working towards achieving a high BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating. BREEAM is a range of assessment methods and tools designed to help construction professionals understand and mitigate the environmental impacts of the developments they design and build.” adds Neil. |
