Learning and development

Award winning learning and development programmes for our licensees and employees, has contributed to Punch Taverns’ growing excellence.

At the prestigious NITAs in December 2006 – the industry’s only recognised training awards – the company completed an impressive double by winning:
  • 'Best Licensee Induction Programme' was presented to Punch for its 10 day licensee induction programme, the Modern Licensed Retailer (MLR). The course covers everything from cellar management to food hygiene, licensing and employment law, health and safety plus marketing.
  • 'Best Development Programme' for its coaching scheme, a three phase, two year initiative for all managers, line managers, heads of department and the executive team.
These awards can be added to the impressive list of the previous NITA awards now totalling 8 in the past three years.

Working in partnership with experienced external training consultants and professional organisations such as the British Institute of Innkeeping, retailers and employees benefit from industry leading courses and skills development.

Punch is one of the few operators to insist upon mandatory training. The ten day Modern Licensed Retailer course covers every facet of running a pub.

For licensees undertaking a pub refurbishment, Punch delivers investment support training. In addition, the eX! Factor advanced marketing course and a range of bespoke courses such as chalkboarding coupled with various British Institute of Innkeeping schemes ensure that all of our licensees have access to quality training.
