To give you the best chance of running a successful and profitable pub business, Punch offers an all encompassing programme of training and ongoing professional development for partners.

Before you start

Even before you serve your first pint, we want to make sure that you feel completely confident, knowledgeable and prepared. Especially if you are new to the pub business, there are a few things you’ll need to do before you start:

Pre-Entry Awareness Training

The first thing you need to do is to complete BII Pre-Entry Awareness Training (PEAT). This training programme is accredited by the BIIAB, and it will help you identify the main issues that you should consider and investigate before you even take on a pub tenancy or lease. The cost for this can be found on the BII website. To enrol right now, click here.

Getting a Personal Licence

You will also need a BIIAB Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH) - a nationally recognised qualification for anyone wishing to apply for a personal licence to become the licensee of a pub in England and Wales. This is a one-day course. For Scotland the Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH) must be obtained. Safety First Certification Food Safety / Health and Safety

Compliance made easy

These two qualifications are included in your agreement and your modules will be sent to you by email to complete when you book your set-up training

It is important that you undertake some essential training in both Food Safety (level 2) and Health and Safety (level 2) before you open for business. These courses can be completed as simple E-Learning modules, and will ensure you are clear on the food hygiene regulations, and can recognise and prevent potential hazards to your customers, yourself and your team. 

Punch Foundation Week

We ask all our new Partners to attend this induction programme, even those with experience, as we want to welcome you to our ways of working in Partnership that ensure you can keep in-touch with all the latest best practice and generally discover all the great ways we can help you to optimise your sales and be the best in your market place.  This induction to Punch is designed to ensure you have all the information and support you need from the outset.

This is a great opportunity to meet the Punch team who will give you the support you need, tailored for you and your business. Our external industry experts will also be on hand to deliver two essential qualifications, the BIIAB Award in Licensed Hospitality Operations (ALHO) and the BIIAB Award in Beer and Cellar Quality (ABCQ).

Professional Onsite Cellar Training
You will receive a visit in your first two weeks from a cellar services expert to help you get the best out of your cellar and optimise your beer quality. This step by step practical training is tailored to your needs and will ensure you and your staff have the knowledge and ability to:-

SUPPORT  & STAYING ON TRACK

We’ll give you all the support you need in your first six months and beyond.  You’ll benefit from expert advice and best practice training to boost your skills and confidence, helping you hit your targets and stay ahead of the competition

New Business Development Meetings

To help you get the best possible start in your new business, we will provide a dedicated New Business Development Manager who will work closely with you as a personal business adviser. Their role is to focus on helping you build your business and to be there for you whenever you need support or a sounding board for new ideas. 

Tailored Business Training

Training alongside you and your team can be delivered to help you launch your new business.  Your Regional Training manager will deliver on site training for your Pub Team alongside your dedicated  New Business Development Manager The ‘Set for Success’ training for your team covers:-
