Financial Controller

Working within our Senior Finance Team, the role is responsible for the performance of the financial department.  Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer on all financial and accounting activities whilst overseeing the financial department team in day-to-day operations.

Key Accountabilities



  • Responsive to business needs with a focus on delivering to SLAs
  • Delivering continuous improvement
  • Oversee financial reporting and effective financial controls


  • Provision of effective business insight to support the wider business in driving performance and making our pubs more successful


  • Key facilitator in driving performance across the business through the provision of financial and operational information which delivers on the objectives of:
    Instilling accountability and ownership of operational, business and financial targets across the business
  • Clear benchmarking of operational and financial performance to identify opportunities for improvement and areas where support and training is required
  • The ability to provide constructive challenge to other business areas in order to deliver improvement in performance, at the same time offering a collaborative approach to delivering our company strategy


  • Motivate and manage financial department team members, building a high-performance finance team
  • Building strong and effective relationships across all areas of the business (senior and junior colleagues alike) and with third parties (auditors, banks and financial advisors)


  • Assist the CFO in presenting reports to senior executives, stakeholders and board members

  • Punch Board and Punch Executive members
  • Finance Senior Team – Head of Tax, Treasurer and Company Secretary
  • Finance Team – circa 20 finance team members

Direct Reports:

  • Financial Reporting Manager
  • Head of Financial Business Support
  • Business Reporting Manager

Line Manager:

  • Chief Financial Officer

Person Specification

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA or equivalent)
  • Several years of experience in a business or finance environment
  • Management experience with strong leadership skills, interpersonal skills and an ability to build relationships with pace
  • Honesty; integrity and reliability
  • Outstanding mathematical skills with proven excel and excel macro skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including an ability to write comprehensive reports
  • High attention to detail; organisational skills; critical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of data privacy standards
