The Red Lion is a very attractive and traditional-looking community value pub, which has a great street presence and enjoys a strong local following within the village. It has a good reputation for cask ale and is also the only pub in the village that offers live TV sports coverage – something that can really be used to pull in punters on big matchdays. It’s currently wet-only, but an on-site kitchen offers clear potential to develop business by offering a small food menu.
The Red Lion is an open plan trading operation, with a public bar and a dedicated pool/sports area. The presence of a catering kitchen presents an opportunity to introduce a small food offer to supplement the current wet trade. Outside, the pub has a couple of tables to the front and a small courtyard beer garden with a smoking solution to the rear. This decked area is used well and is ideal for BBQs on summer days.
The domestic accommodation consists of two bedrooms, a kitchen and a lounge. Punch will ensure that this accommodation is in good order.
The Red Lion is located on the main road and bus route through Handbridge, a district of Chester that lies on the south bank of the River Dee, less than a mile from the city centre. Handbridge has a distinctive village feel and this is very much a community pub with a great local following. The pub sits in a prominent position at the heart of a large residential neighbourhood and customers will typically walk to the pub from the local area.
Ideal if you’re looking for a traditional pub in a setting with a village feel, but close to all the amenities of a vibrant city centre. To succeed here, you’ll need to be personable and outgoing, ideally a sports fan, and to have some previous pub and cellar experience.
