This popular and long-established community mainstream has a reputation for a quirky, niche positioning and a great cask ale and cider offer. It’s very different from anything else in the area and requires an operator who has the ability to grow the customer base by continuing to deliver that difference.
Occupying a corner property on the edge of Hexham town centre, the Tannery is a popular local community mainstream pub, which has a great reputation for cask ale and cider. Cask Marque accredited, the pub appeals to both locals and visitors alike and provides a welcoming haven with lots of original features. The outgoing publican was a genuine character, who has built a great reputation by delivering great food and drink. The new operator here will need to capitalise on the enduring popularity of this long-established pub by maintaining the focus on a great cask and cider offer, and building on the existing food sales. This pub is very different from anything else in the area and our vision is to continue to run this site as a quirky cask and cider operation, with a strong focus on locally produced pub food. In addition to its public and lounge bar areas, the Tannery offers a beer garden, a smoking solution and free WiFi for customers’ use.
The private accommodation consists of two bedrooms, a kitchen and a lounge.
Hexham is one of the main and most popular towns in Northumberland and is located directly off the busy A69 route through the region. It’s a long-established market town with a population of about 11,800. Its location close to Newcastle upon Tyne and Hadrian’s Wall makes it popular with both commuters into Newcastle and tourists visiting Northumberland.
This would be an ideal opportunity for an experienced food and cask operator, who has a great feel for running a quirky, niche pub with a strong focus on a reat cask offer. We’re looking for someone who has the ability to maintain and grow the current customer base, providing a pub with a distinctly different offer and feel from the competition.
